Painter Creek Lodge can be reached by a commercial airline (Peninsula Airways) which lands on our 4000 foot gravel airstrip. Most guests spend Friday night in Anchorage, then fly the following day to the town of King Salmon, Alaska, about an hours flight. A change to a smaller aircraft, waiting for its passenger load, and another half hour flight sets you down in the heart of pristine wilderness -- otherwise known as Painter Creek! Departure the following Saturday is in reverse order. Caution: do not schedule a flight to leave King Salmon before noon as you return to Anchorage. |

The weather on the Alaskan Peninsula can be unpredictable. Temperatures in July and most of August range from the mid-fifties to the low seventies. Partly cloudy and overcast days are common, and rain can occur just about anytime, although July and August are the "dry months". September temperatures hover in the fifties and forties, with the nights definitely getting cooler. Frost in the mornins and fresh snow on the peaks above the lodge are not uncommon by the middle of the month. |

A really neat part of the Alaskan summertime is the amount of daylight. At the end of June there is about 20 hours, and it never gets really dark, just sort of gray around 2a.m. By the end of September, the days have shortened to about 12 hours. Because the terrain around the lodge is so mountainous, and there is usually a breeze of some sort, bugs are not a big problem. |
